CINEMATOGRAPHer
As a trained dark-room developer, long-exposure photographer and graphic designer, Mathew has gained a strong geometric understanding of composition.
His work in narrative film moves beyond the static fundamentals and holds the imperfect balance of our natures.
This discovery unfolds through engaging with the embodied actor, the distillation of the director and so brings the truth of the story to life.
CHARACTER DIRECTor
After undergraduate studies in Film, Mathew trained at 16th Street Actors studio in Melbourne to direct under the infamous Mike Leigh method.
He believes actors are key vessels of the story and that building rigorous characters and exceptional rapport with actors is integral.
This requires diligence, deep investigation and nuanced language and interpersonal skills.
editor

Mathew has edited documentaries, short features, short films, TVCs, music videos, weddings, educational resources and corporate work.
my STORY
My family has been in film and celluloid production since the 1960s thanks to my grandfather. I grew up gathering stories and when I picked up my first DVCAM, that was it. I knew it was in my bones.
I’m always looking into the person through film. Doorways and eyes. Movement and subtlety.
Australia has a voice largely unheard. I’m here to reunite our lost voices and faces.
With 15 years of experience in the Australian Film industry from managing a design and creative house to managing a studio and directing independent film productions, I believe I bring a strong leadership to narrative film.
WHAT’S YOUR STORY
I’d love to hear how far you’ve come…
